Ramaden Estate Merlot (2010)

Tom is having this Merlot tonight and i am finishing a cabernet from last night. i ask Tom what he thinks of this Merlot and he says “nice dark fruit but a bit sweet and a bit carmelly. It is an okay table wine. I wouldn’t seek it out.” We are having pork loin with potatoes and gravy and steamed cauliflower.

House Cabernet Sauvignon (House)

I am out of town and found this quaint restaurant downtown. The decor and ambiance are nice and this house wine is good. The bartender tells me it is a Lohr from California. I just asked to see the bottle. It is called Cypress and is from the Central Coast. Simple but very drinkable. My meal is disappointing but I will make do. I can’t wait to get home tomorrow. 20111028-202829.jpg

Ramsden Estate Napa Valley Reserve Merlot 2010

Melody is on the road again, so I rooted around for a weekday wine. I found this Ramsden Estate Merlot 2010.
It’s fairly tannic, has a red fruit cherry taste, and a touch of pepper and a touch of sweetness.
No cooking tonight: reheated pizza and the World Series.

Alambrado Gran Selection Cabernet Sauvignon (2010)

It is great to be home after a demanding work trip. I arrived home too late to figure out dinner so we ordered pizza.

This Alambrado Gran Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, an Argentine Cab. tastes really good. Very subtle nose with a dark fruit, tannic, and dark chocolate taste.

Casa de Ermelinda Freitas Valoroso 2010

This Casa de Ermelinda Freitas Valorosa 2010 is intriguing. First of all, we just don’t drink many Portuguese wines. Second, it is very fruit-flavored (dark, blackberry fruit) without being sweet or fruit-bomb-y. A very pleasant, surprising wine. I think Melody will enjoy the other bottle of this when she comes home.

This is where Melody describes what she is cooking. I’ll just say that this big Valoroso should go well with my hamburger.

The Patriots Merlot 2010

Melody is on the road, and she’ll be looking for some posts. This is The Patriots Merlot 2010 from Chile, a Wall Street Journal wine club wine. It’s pleasant enough, slightly sweet, tasting of cherries. It is going well with caesar salad and scrambled eggs.

Villa Farnia Di Farnese Montepulciano D’Abruzzo (2010)

We are having an Italian feast tonight and are enjoying this Montepulciano, which is delicious. This is a classic Italian wine. A bit austere with pronounced tannins. Perfect for our meal. I made a homemade spaghetti meat sauce that simmered all afternoon and filled the house with a savory aroma. With spaghetti we had fresh, steamed spinach and cheesy garlic toast. We especially enjoyed having our son Tony home with us. He has recently come home from a year of traveling, spending most of his time during the past year in Australia and South Korea.
