Pierre La Grange Vin de Table

This is a French table wine. I do not know what grapes are in this wine because it doesn’t say on the bottle. Although it is obviously an inexpensive table wine, it is quite nice. The wine makers apparently crushed whatever grapes they had available on their estate in Southern France. Not bad, not bad at all! The taste is quite complex with flavors of plums and blackberries and a nose of cedar and crabapple.

It’s a beautiful August night in Michigan. I have a meatloaf in the oven along with roasted potatoes, which I drizzled with olive oil and spices after cutting into large chunks. We’re listening to music and looking at the sky, which is beautiful with blue sky and swirling magnificent clouds rushing by.

    Color, Body, Nose, Flavors
COLOR: deep dark red with black shades; BODY: Medium; NOSE: FLAVORS: tar, spice, and pepper qualities. Syrahs are long-lived, and as they slowly mature, they take on characteristics of sweet blackberries, black currants, and plums, with hints of smokiness.

    Region Description
Stretching across Southern France down to the Mediterranean coast, the Pays d’Oc region of France is an area that has come on strong since the late 1990’s. Long overshadowed by the reputations of Burgundy, Bordeaux and the Rhone Valley, it is now a region poised to produce wines of genuine quality. New plantings of more “noble” varieties have replaced inferior vines and modern technologies have become part of the winemaking process. Today, pays d’Oc delivers some of the best quality and value wines available.

    Details
The vineyard is situated next to the old city of Beziers in the South of France, not far from the Spanish border. This area is the cradle of French vineyards because vines were planted here several centuries B.C.

    Vintner / Wine Maker
The owner of this vineyard is the famous Pierre Degroote who was a pioneer in Languedoc-Roussillon producing quality wines in this area in the early 80’s.

    Food Pairings
This Syrah is a good accompaniment for meat and game as well as goat cheese. Serve this wine in a decanter and open the bottle at least 2-3 hours before serving
